ISS air leak stopped but cause of malfunction remains unknown

Air leaks in the Russian segment of the International Space Station, which have concerned engineers for several years, have been stopped. However, the cause of the cracks remains unknown. Ixbt.com reports on this.
The problem was observed in the transfer tunnel of the "Zvezda" module. Air loss stopped after Russian cosmonauts applied a sealant.
NASA and "Roskosmos" specialists have different views on the risk of the cracks. Among the main versions, material fatigue due to pump vibrations and corrosion are being considered.
NASA representative Joel Montalbano emphasized that he is still concerned about the condition of the station's structure. For safety purposes, the hatch between the compartments is kept closed while the crew is working.
A final decision on the fate of the station must be made by the end of 2026. NASA plans to end the use of the station in 2030, but the possibility of extending the period until 2032 is also being studied.
