Waymo is updating software for its robotaxis

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Waymo has begun a software update process for its fleet of approximately 4,000 autonomous vehicles. This recall is being implemented to ensure safety on flooded roads. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
Regulatory documents note that Waymo robotaxis slowed down when encountering flooded areas but did not stop completely. This situation created dangerous conditions, especially on high-speed roads. The issue affects a total of 3,791 vehicles using the company's fifth and sixth-generation autonomous systems.
Company representatives stated that they are taking additional protective measures to restrict movement in areas with a high risk of flooding. Specifically, operations in San Antonio were temporarily suspended after flaws in the robotaxis' control systems were identified during heavy rains and flooding in Texas.
Waymo has been forced to issue software recalls several times this year. Previously, the company took similar measures regarding collisions with obstacles or utility poles in parking lots, as well as traffic rule violations near school buses.
