Tesla Robotaxi involved in accidents during remote operation

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), at least two accidents involving Tesla Robotaxi vehicles have been recorded. The incidents occurred in Austin, Texas, with no passengers on board, only operators monitoring the system. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

Both cases occurred during telemetric operation. When the autonomous driving system encountered difficulties, an operator at a remote center took control of the vehicle. As a result, in one instance, the car drove onto a curb and hit a metal barrier, and in the second, it collided with a construction barrier at 15 km/h.

Tesla emphasizes that this technology is used to navigate vehicles out of complex situations. The company believes this allows for a quick solution without waiting for a tow truck. However, the new data indicates that the autonomous system still has limitations and requires operator intervention.

The company has disclosed a full description of 17 incidents that have occurred since the launch of the Robotaxi program. Most cases were minor, involving collisions with obstacles or animals. Nevertheless, these statistics confirm that there are still many technical challenges in the process of expanding Tesla's autonomous network.
