In the city of Samarkand, one of the major projects aimed at protecting the environment and expanding renewable energy sources is being implemented. In particular, on a 15-hectare site in the “Khushrav” complex located in the “Navruz” mahalla, active construction works are underway for a modern plant that will produce electricity through waste incineration.
According to the information, once fully operational, the plant will process 1,500 tons of waste per day. This will make it possible to produce about 240 million kWh of electricity annually. Within the framework of the project, 150 to 200 new jobs are also expected to be created.
The implementation of this initiative is being carried out on the basis of cooperation agreements signed between the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency under the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Uzbekistan and leading companies of China. The project is planned to be introduced step by step not only in Samarkand but also in 5 other regions of the country.
In addition, on March 24 of this year, by presidential decision, a resolution titled “On measures to implement investment projects for electricity production through incineration of solid household waste” was adopted. According to it, the aim is to improve the environmental situation in the regions, introduce innovative technologies in waste processing, and attract large-scale investments.
In the construction works in Samarkand region, the Chinese company “Shanghai SUS Environment” LLC is investing 150 million US dollars. Under the project, the electricity produced will be guaranteed to be supplied for 30 years to the joint-stock company “Uzenergosotish.” At the same time, long-term agreements have been concluded on the uninterrupted supply and processing of waste.
