Kazakhstan’s state company "QazaqGaz" and Uzbekistan’s corporation "Uztransgaz" have reached an official agreement regarding the transit of gas through Uzbekistan's territory. This was reported by the press service of "QazaqGaz." The document is expected to elevate the energy cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
According to the information provided, the agreement was signed by Asqar Isoqov, Acting Chairman of the Board of "Uztransgaz," on behalf of Uzbekistan, and Alibek Jamauov, Chairman of the Board of "QazaqGaz," on behalf of Kazakhstan. Both parties noted that this agreement will contribute to ensuring stability in the gas supply chain.
An official statement emphasized that the signing of the agreement consolidates previously reached arrangements for uninterrupted and reliable gas transportation. It also aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in the gas transportation sector and enhance the reliability of regional energy infrastructure. Notably, the agreement holds critical importance for ensuring stability during the autumn-winter season.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenjenov, provided clarity on the content of the agreement, stating that it concerns the transit of Russian natural gas. According to him, the current agreement does not merely preserve the existing volumes but also considers expanding transit capacities in the future.
“This pertains to the transit of Russian gas. Overall, we are considering the possibility of increasing the transit volume to 8.4 billion cubic meters annually,” the minister said during a meeting with journalists.
Experts believe that this agreement not only strengthens the strategic energy partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan but also positively impacts the stability of gas supply across the entire Central Asian region. This, in turn, will improve the efficiency of transit corridors and mitigate seasonal risks.
