Putin: "We are ready to end hostilities"
Russia is ready to stop military operations in Ukraine, but this should only lead to a long-term, stable peace. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on March 13.

We agree with the proposals for a cessation of hostilities, but this cessation should lead to a long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of this crisis, Putin said.

Commenting on Ukraine's readiness to stop military operations, Putin said: "You know, the US-Ukraine meeting in Saudi Arabia may seem from the outside that the Ukrainian side made a decision under American pressure. In fact, I am sure that the Ukrainian side, as has just been said, should have firmly asked the Americans for this, based on the situation on the ground.”

“The idea itself (of reconciliation) is correct. And we, of course, support it, but there are issues that we need to discuss,” Putin said.

He also raised a number of specific questions, in particular, about what to do with the undefeated units of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region:

“Should we withdraw the armed forces from the Kursk region after so many crimes against the civilian population? There are two ways for the UDF in the Kursk region: to be captured or to perish.”

Putin stressed that Russia must receive guarantees that “Ukraine will not mobilize, train troops, or acquire weapons” during the 30-day ceasefire.

“I think we should talk to our American colleagues, partners, and maybe call President Trump and discuss it with him. But we support the idea of a peaceful resolution of this conflict,” he stressed.

The Russian leader called the efforts of world leaders to help stop the hostilities in Ukraine a noble task.

In conclusion, the president noted that the idea of a peaceful resolution of the conflict is correct, but there are many issues that he needs to discuss with President Trump.

“How will the issues of control and inspection be resolved? Who will determine who violated what at a distance of 2,000 kilometers? Who will give the order to cease fire? From a common sense point of view, this is understandable to everyone, these are serious issues. All of these are issues that require careful study by both sides.”
