“Entrepreneurs” arrested for stealing RAM from hotel computers in China

Chinese law enforcement agencies have put an end to the activities of a criminal group that specialized in stealing components from high-performance computers in hotels. Two individuals checked into hotel rooms as guests, secretly removed RAM modules from the system units, and sold them on the secondary market. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

The events began in May of this year, after one of the suspects checked into a hotel room equipped with specialized computers. He dismantled the hardware in the room and stole the RAM modules. Later, in order to expand this "business," he found an accomplice.

Theft scheme and financial damage

According to the publication ixbt.com, the pair managed to "visit" several hotels in the second half of May, stealing a total of 16 RAM modules in just 15 days. They primarily targeted hotels with gaming computers, as the RAM modules in such devices are highly valued on the market.

The stolen components were immediately put on the secondary market. It is reported that the "entrepreneurs" earned a total of about 2,000 USD through these illegal activities. However, their plans did not last long.

Once the RAM modules, which are among the most critical parts of the computers, were stolen, the devices naturally failed to boot. Hotel administrators noticed the empty system units while checking for technical malfunctions and immediately contacted the police.

Exposure of the crime

As a result of the operational investigation, police officers managed to arrest individuals named Li and Chen. A criminal case has been initiated against them. This incident once again highlights the need for hotel business owners to protect their equipment, particularly by equipping system units with special locks or seals.

In recent years, the number of computer gaming clubs and tech-equipped hotels has also been increasing in Uzbekistan. This incident in China should encourage entrepreneurs to pay closer attention to the security of expensive technical assets. After all, small components like RAM are easy to smuggle out, but their loss halts the operation of the entire system.
