A New Era in Medicine: Drone-Based Medical Delivery Launched

In Russia's Sakhalin region, the first successful real-world delivery of medical supplies via an unmanned aerial vehicle has been completed. This event marks a significant turning point for regional healthcare, expanding the capabilities for providing emergency assistance to remote and hard-to-reach areas. The flight was organized by the company Avrora BAS, with the transport task performed by an Aist fixed-wing drone developed by Drone Solutions. The device covered a 32-kilometer distance from the Korsakov District Central Hospital to the village of Ozyorskoye. This was reported by ixbt.com, citing the regional government's press service.

Notably, the drone did not just deliver medications; it also brought back blood samples from patients on its return trip. The process was monitored in real-time via an identification platform based on the state system ERA-GLONASS.

Speed and Temperature Control

The Aist drone is equipped with a special thermobox connected to the device's onboard power grid. This allows for the safe storage of temperature-sensitive medications and biological materials regardless of external environmental conditions. For instance, despite high temperatures on the day of the first flight, the cargo was maintained within the required standards.

The greatest advantage of the new system is its speed. The drone covered the distance from Korsakov to Ozyorskoye in 19 minutes, which is twice as fast as delivery by car. In emergency situations, especially where human life depends on seconds, such speed is of critical importance.

Experts note that air routes are particularly useful in conditions of impassable roads following winter storms. Implementing such technologies to improve the quality of medical services in mountainous and remote villages is considered promising. Drone-based delivery not only saves time but can also reduce logistics costs.

The success of this project paves the way for the widespread use of unmanned aviation for civilian purposes in the future, particularly in the social sector. Work is currently underway to establish the system on a regular basis and further improve flight safety.
