According to available information, the incident occurred on the main highway from the city of Durango to the port of Manzanillo. The attackers, driving two white cars, blocked the truck on the road and held the driver and guards hostage for an hour and a half. During this time, the truck and trailer came completely under their control and disappeared with the valuable cargo. Later, the police found only the truck itself, but it was not possible to find the trailer and the metal concentrate.

The head of Grupo Minero Bacis, José Jaime Gutierrez Nunez, who has great authority in the national industry and business community, called this loss a major disaster. The company is considered one of the largest producers of gold, silver, zinc, and lead in Mexico, and this incident may become a serious lesson for the entire sector.

According to Bloomberg, such thefts occur quite often in Mexico. In the first two months of 2025, the number of robberies in the country increased by 30%, and it has been reported that an attempt at robbery is recorded every 50 minutes. However, the loss of 33 tons of valuable concentrate is noted as one of the largest events in the industry's history.

Experts note that this situation requires strengthening security in Mexico's mining sector and a complete overhaul of the cargo transportation system. For this, the introduction of new technologies, increased control, and cooperation with law enforcement agencies are required.
