A situation that has become the next center of discussion in the global medical education market — India’s National Medical Commission (NMC) has strongly advised its students to be cautious about studying at the Chirchik branch of Tashkent State Medical University, reports newindianexpress.com. The main reason is that the branch does not fully comply with Indian standards and has a number of shortcomings.
The official statement emphasizes that this university and three other institutions in Belize do not provide sufficient academic and clinical training, and that infrastructure and the learning environment are not at the required level. For some, unexpected payments and infrastructure-related issues remain unresolved. There have also been reports of pressure on some students who wished to leave their studies.
For Indian medical graduates, the rules for foreign medical education — FMGL (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) — must be strictly followed. These requirements cover the duration of the course, the curriculum, and clinical practice. If these are not fulfilled, graduates may lose their right to practice medicine in India.
The Chirchik branch of Tashkent State Medical University considers these claims unfounded. In its official response, the university states that the educational process is fully adapted to the requirements of Uzbekistan and WFME — the World Federation for Medical Education. At present, the branch has 5 Indian, 1 Jordanian, 8 Pakistani, and 7 Egyptian students, with all academic and clinical standards strictly observed.
The administration also declared its interest in open dialogue and expanded cooperation with India in education, and announced its readiness for any international inspection.
In conclusion, this situation has brought new questions and demands in educational relations between India and Uzbekistan. For the Chirchik branch, this is a test of academic reputation and compliance with international standards. Observers are following the development of events with great interest.
