More than 4,000 illegal crossing attempts detected at Germany's western borders

In July, German police detected more than 4,000 cases of illegal border crossings via France, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Of these, 2,573 people attempted to enter the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland through France.

As a result of inspections, some illegal migrants were sent back: 1,364 to France, 869 to Luxembourg, and 132 to Belgium. These figures apply only to July, with final statistics yet to be released.

According to the Federal Police, 144 smugglers were arrested during border checks, and 480 individuals were detained on warrants. Since September 16, 2024, Germany has reintroduced temporary controls at all its borders. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has expressed intentions to extend this measure beyond September.
