Tomorrow, September 18, one of the largest asteroids of 2025 is expected to approach Earth. This was officially reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory.
According to laboratory data, the asteroid named "2025 FA22" will pass through Earth at a distance slightly wider than the diameter of the Moon's orbit tomorrow, September 18, and will reach its closest point to the planet around 12:00 Tashkent time. The average diameter of this space object is 166 meters, and its length is 290 meters. In terms of mass, it is approximately 1000 times larger than the Chelyabinsk meteorite.
According to scientists from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this is the largest and most noteworthy space object that will pass through the planet at a distance of less than a million kilometers in 2025. At the same time, as with most asteroids included in the list of hazardous objects for Earth, the probability of this object colliding with the planet is very low. Scientists also note that it is practically impossible to accurately observe the movement of the asteroid through a telescope.
Academic astrophysicists note that "the probability of collision is practically zero, as it is difficult to imagine what combination of states could fundamentally change the asteroid's orbit in a short time." This will allow the population and scientists to observe without fear.
It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that an asteroid named 2025 PM, with a diameter of 50 meters, will pass near Earth. Thanks to such observations, the possibilities of detecting the movement of space objects and assessing the safety of the Earth are expanding.
