11 members of an influential Myanmar family were sentenced to death in China

According to the Associated Press, the Wenzhou Intermediate People's Court of China sentenced 11 members of the influential Ming family in Kokkang, Myanmar, to death. This family and their accomplices were found guilty of engaging in large-scale fraud through an illegal gambling organization and involvement in murder cases.

According to the data, the family owned more than $1.4 billion in illegal funds. They also established discipline in their criminal syndicate by eliminating "non-compliant employees."

According to the court verdict, five other defendants were sentenced to two years of suspended execution. In Chinese law, such punishment is often replaced by life imprisonment. At the same time, 12 more individuals were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five to twenty-four years.

Analysts note that this incident indicates that the Chinese government is taking decisive measures to combat illegal online gambling and transnational fraud.
