A terrible road accident occurred in the state of Rajasthan in western India. A passenger bus traveling on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway suddenly caught fire. According to NDTV, at least 20 people were killed and more than 10 injured as a result of the incident.
According to the information, there were 57 passengers on board the bus. Witnesses say they first saw smoke coming from behind the vehicle. The driver stopped on the side of the road to assess the situation, but within a few minutes the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
Due to the rapid spread of the fire, many passengers did not manage to get out. When rescuers and firefighters arrived at the scene, the bus was almost completely burned.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. According to doctors, some of them are in serious condition, and many have suffered severe burns. Currently, the number of casualties is expected to increase.
According to official information, the fire was likely caused by a short circuit. However, police and specialists have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause.
The government of Rajasthan announced that material assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased. Indian media are describing this incident as one of the most severe transport disasters in the country in recent years.
