The world-famous Louvre Museum in France has strengthened security measures. According to Reuters, after last week's criminal incident, the museum transferred part of its most valuable jewels to a French bank.
It was reported that some exhibits from the Apollo Gallery - the department where rare masterpieces related to the royal crown are kept - were delivered to a special warehouse of the Bank of France on October 24 under police surveillance.
The bank stores the country's gold reserves in a huge underground warehouse located at a depth of 27 meters. It is located on the right bank of the Seine, just 500 meters from the Louvre. At the same time, neither the Louvre nor the Bank of France has issued an official statement.
It should be recalled that on October 19, eight valuable items worth approximately $102 million were stolen from the museum's collection. According to the investigation, unknown individuals entered the upper floor of the museum using a crane during work hours, descended through a window, took the jewels, and fled on motorcycles.
It is reported that the entire process lasted only 4 minutes. It was also established that the perpetrators of the theft were in uniform. This situation caused a great stir not only in France, but throughout the world.
Local media reported that many French citizens and cultural figures assessed the incident as a national disgrace. The government has begun implementing additional security measures to protect cultural heritage.
It is noted that such large-scale thefts have been very rare in the history of the Louvre Museum. However, the recent event once again brought to the forefront the issue of France's cultural heritage and the safety of its jewels.
