Russia demonstrated an "unlimited range" nuclear missile

Following reports of the US supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again drawn global attention to his new weapon. The Kremlin leader announced the successful completion of intercontinental missile tests of the "Burevestnik" with a nuclear warhead, which he previously called a "miracle weapon," the BBC reports.

At a meeting with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and the military, Putin described the "Burevestnik" as a "unique weapon of unlimited range and unprecedented in any country." According to him, the missile successfully passed "decisive tests," and now the infrastructure for its practical deployment is being prepared.

Gerasimov clarified that on October 21, the rocket flew in the air for about 15 hours, covering a distance of 14 thousand kilometers. "This is not the limit," the general said, "Burevestnik can bypass any defense system and reach the target with high accuracy."

Putin emphasized that this weapon has further strengthened Russia's nuclear capabilities, stating that the country is in a state of "highest-level" readiness. The process of deploying the "Burevestnik" to the armed forces is expected to begin soon.

Putin first mentioned this missile in his address to the Federal Assembly in 2018. According to Western intelligence, the "Burevestnik" underwent 13 tests between 2017 and 2019, but only two of them were relatively successful.

In 2019, during the test, the rocket crashed into the Barents Sea, and the explosion killed seven people, including scientists from the Sarov Nuclear Center. As a result of the incident, the radiation cloud reportedly engulfed Severodvinsk and even reached Scandinavia.

The last known test of "Burevestnik" was conducted in 2023, when Putin also said that the development was almost complete.

Currently, international experts have different opinions about this missile - some consider it a real threat, while others see it more as a political symbol.
