In Cairo, the "Grand Egyptian Museum" (Grand Egyptian Museum), worth 1 billion dollars, opened its doors to the public after 20 years of waiting and several delays in completing the project.
This structure entered history as the largest museum of ancient civilization in the world. It contains more than 50 thousand rare exhibits, including all the treasures found in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
At the opening ceremony, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called it "an unprecedented event in the history of human culture." He noted that this museum combines the genius of the ancient Egyptians with the creativity of the modern generation.
The new museum is expected to receive about 5 million tourists a year. This indicator can make it one of the most visited cultural centers in the world. For comparison, the famous Louvre Museum in France was visited by 8.7 million people in 2024.
This modern architectural masterpiece, erected next to the pyramids, is distinguished by its triangular shape. Inside the building, a six-story staircase is decorated with ancient sculptures. The museum also includes a large conference hall, a modern library, a children's museum, recreation areas, and restaurants.
However, some famous exhibits have not yet been exhibited - the Rosetta Stone is currently kept in the British Museum in London, and the Nefertiti statue is kept in the Neues Museum in Berlin. The Egyptians are again raising the issue of returning these artifacts to their homeland.
The project began in 2005 and has been suspended several times due to political instability and the pandemic. The museum was partially launched in October 2024, but the grand opening was postponed due to the war between Israel and Iran.
Now, the Grand Egyptian Museum will operate daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, starting November 4th. The entry ticket for adults is set at 1,450 Egyptian pounds, which is approximately 27 euros.
The Egyptian government sees this museum not only as a source of national pride but also as a tourism center that makes a significant contribution to the country's economy.
