
A court in Bangladesh has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity.
It is reported that he and his close associates were found guilty of violently suppressing the mass protests that erupted across the country in 2024. These unrest subsequently turned into a revolution.
After 15 years of authoritarian rule, Sheikh Hasina found the country in a political crisis. According to the UN, approximately 1,400 citizens died during the repressions during his tenure.
The trial lasted several months, and many testimonies were heard remotely. According to witness statements, he was said to have ordered the mass elimination of dissatisfied citizens.
After the overthrow, Sheikh Hasina sought refuge in India and denies all accusations.
