Serious action was observed in the European political arena yesterday - EU member states openly opposed the US's new initiative to resolve the Ukraine conflict. According to Reuters sources, the document proposed by Washington requires Kyiv to make territorial concessions and partial disarmament. This is an absolutely unacceptable scenario for Brussels.
Brussels' position is clear - there is no room for pressure and coercion
While EU foreign ministers did not provide a detailed explanation of the US plan at the meeting, they openly stated one thing: Ukraine must not adapt to any forced concessions. They assessed any call that puts pressure on Kyiv as incorrect and a factor that exacerbates the conflict.
Thus, Europe reaffirmed that, unlike Washington, the interests of Ukraine must come first in the peace process.
Washington has become more active, and Kyiv is in an unfavorable situation
Reuters writes that it is no coincidence that the strengthening of US diplomatic activity coincided with the height of the corruption scandal in Kyiv. Ukraine is currently in an extremely politically sensitive state, which is increasingly being used as pressure by some forces.
A few days ago, the Axios portal also reported that Washington had begun discussing this plan with its European allies and Kyiv. The content of the document intensified serious questions both in the West and in Ukraine.
Even shorter but more serious comment than Moscow
The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, also commented. He emphasized that there are no new agreements on the Ukrainian conflict - only verbal agreements reached by Putin and Trump in Alaska. This indicates that the new initiatives of the Washington side are not sufficiently consolidated.
Conclusion: Europe has marked its own "red line"
This attitude of the European Union has clearly shown one thing - any plan to pressure Ukraine and demand that it surrender territory is unacceptable for Europe. The US's new "peace formula" is not universally accepted in the West either.
The EU's position means the same thing: peace can only be achieved with the consent of both sides and taking into account the interests of Ukraine.
