10 people die from contaminated water in India

In the Indian city of Indore, diarrheal disease has spread widely due to contaminated drinking water. As a result, at least 10 people have died and more than a thousand residents have sought medical assistance. Indore city had previously been recognized several times as the “cleanest city” in the country.
According to reports, the illness has been observed since late December in the Bagiratpura area. Residents visited hospitals with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. City authorities stated that final data on the number of deaths has not yet been provided and investigations are ongoing.
Inspection results revealed a crack in the drinking water pipeline, which caused the water to become contaminated. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of harmful bacteria in the water. It was found that there were violations of sanitation requirements in the area where the pipeline is located.
Currently, hundreds of patients are being treated in city hospitals, some of them in serious condition. Authorities are advising residents to use only clean and safe water. Measures are being taken to supply additional water to the area and to eliminate the problem.
