EU calls for restraint over situation around Venezuela

The European Union said it is closely monitoring the situation related to Venezuela. At the same time, Brussels reiterated its previous position, stating it still views President Nicolás Maduro’s legitimacy as insufficient. This was reported by podrobno.uzreports.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas made the remarks after consultations with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to her, she spoke with Rubio as well as the EU ambassador in Caracas, and the situation is under the EU’s oversight.
Kallas recalled that the EU has repeatedly stressed Maduro’s “insufficient legitimacy” in the past and urged compliance with international law and the principles of the UN Charter. She emphasized that restraint is expected from all sides and that any steps must remain within international norms.
A TASS source in Brussels added that the United States had not informed EU and NATO countries of its plans regarding Venezuela.
As a reminder, according to CBS sources, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were detained by the U.S. Delta Force special unit and taken out of the country. These reports prompted sharp reactions from a number of states and international organizations, with concerns voiced about escalation and potential violations of international law.
