Trump seeks to restore internet in Iran through Elon Musk

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he plans to discuss restoring internet services in Iran with billionaire Elon Musk after Iranian authorities cut off internet access for four days. According to Trump, Musk and his company SpaceX have significant experience in this field, and the Starlink satellite internet service could be used.
The internet shutdown has made it difficult to monitor the internal situation in Iran. Protests began on December 28, initially triggered by a sharp rise in prices, and later turned into widespread opposition against the country’s clerical rule.
Musk has previously used the Starlink service to support protesters in Iran and other regions. Trump and Musk have recently re-established close relations, meeting this month at the Mar-a-Lago resort, and the U.S. Secretary of Defense is scheduled to visit a SpaceX facility in Texas.
According to human rights groups, 490 protesters and 48 security personnel have been killed during the protests, and more than 10,600 people have been arrested. Trump’s talks with Musk are seen as efforts to restore internet access and ensure the flow of information to the public.
