The app "Did You Die?" for singles quickly became popular

In China, the new mobile application, which attracted attention both by name and idea, quickly gained popularity. According to the BBC, the app, known in Chinese as 死了么 - "Si Le Me?," is mainly aimed at ensuring the safety of those living alone.
The mechanism is simple: the user clicks the green button every two days to confirm that they are alive. If this action is not performed at the specified time, the program will notify the person indicated for emergency contact and warn that something might happen. Although the application was launched in May last year, it has been actively downloaded in recent weeks, and Silema has become one of the most downloaded paid applications.
According to the Global Times, the number of people living alone in China could reach 200 million by 2030. This audience - office workers far from their families, students, or those who have consciously chosen a solitary life - are the main users of the program.
However, the name is also subject to criticism: it is said that the phrase "Did you die?" can evoke a negative mood. Moonscape Technologies, taking these opinions into account, stated that they are considering changing the name. In the international market, the app was released under the name Demumu and became one of the most popular paid programs in some countries. Now the program is paid: the cheapest version is 8 yuan (about $1.15).
