Trump makes sharp statement on Iran

US President Donald Trump emphasized that candidates for the position of Iran's new supreme leader must be approved by Washington. In an interview with ABC News, Trump stated clearly that if the future leader does not receive US approval, they will not be able to remain on the throne for long. According to him, this measure is necessary to ensure that problems related to Iran do not recur in the coming decades.
Trump did not rule out that suitable candidates could emerge from Iran's current political circles. At the same time, he expressed that he would not support the rise to power of Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei. The US President claimed that Iran is planning to conquer the Middle East and is pursuing an aggressive policy in the region.
Recall that Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei died on February 28 as a result of Israeli and US strikes. Currently, the country is governed by a Provisional Council consisting of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni, and member of the Iranian Jurisprudence Council Alireza Arafi. The new supreme leader is to be elected by the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 mujtahids.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has also warned that Iran's new leader could become a target. The international community is closely watching how these changes in Iran's internal politics will affect regional security.
