Iran is creating serious challenges for the US aircraft carrier

After missile attacks carried out by Iran, the exact current location of the US Navy flagship, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, remains unknown. This situation adds a new intrigue to the military situation in the region.

US military personnel have released images and photographs showing that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier was not hit by the missiles and sustained no damage. It is worth recalling that Iran previously claimed that the ship had been struck, was damaged, or had withdrawn from the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean.

US military officials, in turn, emphasize that the aircraft carrier is safe and continues to operate, striking military targets in Iran and carrying out combat missions. However, its exact current location has not been publicly disclosed.

“The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier continues to support air strikes against destruction targets in Iran in regional waters,” the US Navy press service stated in an official announcement.

According to country sources, the carrier’s fighter-bomber aircraft have many additional fuel tanks, which significantly increase their flight range. Usually, each aircraft has two such tanks, but observations have shown that some aircraft have four, and one even has five tanks.

With five tanks, F/A-18 Super Hornets can cover approximately 3,800–4,000 kilometers. With fewer tanks, the range is about 3,200 kilometers. Previously, F/A-18 Super Hornets usually carried two external fuel tanks during missions striking Iran.

Current observations indicate that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier has been forced to remain at a considerable distance from the Iranian coast and may now be at least 1,500 kilometers away from the territory of the Islamic Republic, according to Military Review analysts. This conclusion is primarily based on the increase in the number of external tanks on the aircraft.

However, the use of tanker aircraft is not widespread and does not cover all sorties. Therefore, any actions by Iran could complicate the operations of US aircraft carriers.

The increase in fuel tanks, in particular, leads to a reduction in combat load: F/A-18 Super Hornets in this configuration can carry significantly fewer bombs and missiles compared to the minimal or no-tank variant.

This, in particular, may explain the recent decrease in the intensity of US strikes against Iran, as well as the “five-day peace” announced by the US president.

Overall, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its aircraft demonstrate the complexity and intrigue of military operations in the region, providing fans and analysts with an interesting opportunity for observation.
