Uzbekistan and Afghanistan formed a council

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have held the first meeting of their joint Business Council in Tashkent, opening a new platform to boost trade and wider economic cooperation. The new body brings together representatives from major industries in both countries and is expected to support direct contacts between companies. Reports Podrobno.uz.
According to Uzbekistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the meeting was chaired by chamber heads Davron Vakhabov and Muhammad Karim Hashimi. The council includes 32 members, among them leaders of Uzbek industry associations and executives from leading Afghan firms. They represent sectors such as construction materials, textiles, electrical equipment, oil products, pharmaceuticals and food production.
During the talks, participants discussed expanding trade ties, developing joint projects and introducing digital customs systems to simplify cross-border procedures. They also outlined plans to organize exhibitions and business forums on a regular basis in order to create new partnerships and encourage investment.
Vakhabov said the council should become an effective mechanism for direct dialogue between entrepreneurs and a practical tool for increasing business activity. The meeting follows Uzbekistan’s recent approval of a preferential trade agreement with Afghanistan, a step aimed at making goods exchange easier and strengthening economic ties between the two neighbors.
