Iran rejects US truce extension, issues sharp warning
In brief

Iran has issued a sharp warning to the United States, rejecting any extension of a truce agreement and stating it will act based on its national interests. Tehran also announced it will not participate in potential US talks via Pakistan. The country further warned that continued maritime restrictions, particularly a blockade, would be considered a hostile act, potentially leading to traffic disruption in the Strait of Hormuz and the possibility of using force to lift blockades, raising regional tension concerns.

According to Iranian state television, Tehran announced it does not recognize the extension of the truce agreement. The official statement noted that the country, based on its national interests, may adhere to or cease implementing the truce terms.

According to information disseminated by the Tasnim news agency, Iran has officially stated that it will not participate in potential negotiations with the US in Islamabad via Pakistan. It was also emphasized that no request for an extension of the truce period has been sent by Tehran to the US.

The statements also addressed the issue of restrictions on maritime routes. The Iranian side stated that the continuation of the sea blockade would be assessed as a hostile act. It was mentioned that if the situation does not change, the country may not restore transport movement through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

Officials also noted that the possibility of lifting the blockade by force, if necessary, is not ruled out. This raises concerns that tensions in the region could further escalate.
