Import duties on raw materials for 15 Products to be lifted

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to remove customs duties on the import of raw materials necessary for the production of 15 types of products.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojayev during an open discussion with entrepreneurs.

He emphasized that a “tariff inversion” exists in certain sectors.
In other words, importing finished products is cheaper than purchasing raw materials for domestic production, which are subject to high tariffs.

As a result, local manufacturers face additional costs, and their competitiveness decreases.
Consequently, some enterprises are unable to operate at full capacity.

Based on analyses, it is proposed as an experiment to abolish import duties on raw materials for the following products:

  • electric scooters;
  • wheelchairs;
  • sunflower oil;
  • marmalades;
  • caramel candies;
  • chocolate;
  • baby food;
  • instant bakery products;
  • gingerbread and cookies;
  • waffles;
  • pies;
  • cakes;
  • jams and preserves;
  • canned strawberries;
  • sugary beverages.

Additionally, using confectionery as an example, it was noted that currently importing chocolate and other sweets is cheaper than producing them domestically.
