A new concept, phubbing, has recently been widely discussed on the Internet. This phenomenon is explained as a situation when, during communication, a person pays more attention to their phone than to their partner. According to experts, this habit seriously harms relationships and causes many conflicts, reports Peopletalk.
The study involved 196 adult couples who use their phones daily. Scientists examined how gadget use affects their relationships and recorded cases when the phone was chosen over live conversation.
The results turned out to be even more negative than expected. People who became victims of phubbing often fell into a negative mood, and their level of satisfaction with the relationship decreased significantly. In particular, respondents with an anxious attachment style experienced this especially strongly. In addition, the experiment participants showed lower self-esteem and increased symptoms of depression.
Experts believe that although smartphones have become an integral part of our lives, excessive use of them weakens emotional bonds. As a result, phones replace live communication and can undermine trust and intimacy between partners.
