Scientists: Which people do mosquitoes target most often?

The scientific world came out again with surprising conclusions. This time, researchers at Radbaud University in the Netherlands studied which people mosquitoes target more, reports Biorxiv.

455 participants of the music festival underwent the experiment. They first completed a special questionnaire on hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle, including alcohol consumption.

During the test, participants placed their hands on a device designed for mosquitoes. There, insects made a choice between human hands and sugary food. Thanks to the special mesh, the mosquitoes could smell the skin, but the mosquitoes could not bite voluntary participants.

As a result, it turned out that mosquitoes were more likely to target people who consumed alcohol. Researcher Felix Hall noted that such drinks change body temperature and smell, making a person more attractive to mosquitoes.

Interestingly, insects showed great interest in participants who had recently had sexual intercourse. However, those who applied sunscreen to their hands or took morning showers attracted fewer mosquitoes.
