Scientists have discovered that millions of bacteria accumulate in the shower head. These microbes can splash onto the face with water.
Bacteria form a layer called a “biofilm” inside the shower hose. They feed on nutrients from the water and tiny particles released from the plastic.
Some showers were also found to contain Legionella bacteria, which can cause lung disease. They are especially dangerous for people with weak immune systems.
Experts recommend using and cleaning the shower regularly, and letting the water run for a few minutes before using one that has not been used for a long time.
