Scientists have discovered a substance that blocks the harm of sugar to the liver

Researchers from the University of California have identified the body’s natural mechanism for defending itself against the harmful effects of sugar, MedicalXpress reported.

According to the study, inulin, a natural fiber, plays an essential role in the human body. It influences beneficial gut bacteria and blocks the absorption of fructose before it reaches the liver. This helps protect the liver from overload.

Inulin is naturally found in onions, garlic, artichokes, and some other vegetables. Scientists described inulin as a “natural liver filter” — it regulates sugar breakdown and prevents fat accumulation in the body.

Experts noted that gut microbiota can metabolize sugar before it reaches the liver, but this only happens when there is enough fiber in the diet. If the body lacks fiber, fructose goes directly to the liver, overloading it and causing fat buildup.

Researchers also emphasized that metabolic disorders are not limited to overweight people. Even those who appear healthy may experience insulin resistance and liver stress.

According to scientists, a diet rich in inulin and other fibers is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to prevent metabolic diseases.

Thus, the University of California study demonstrated that the cooperation between gut microbes and natural fibers can be a key factor in protecting the human body from the damaging effects of sugar.
