Why do some people age faster? The answer lies in teenage aggression

Scientists have revealed another important factor that influences human aging. Experts at the University of Virginia, after a 17-year observation, found that aggressive behavior in adolescence strongly affects not only the psyche but also the biological aging process.

The study involved 123 participants. Since 1998, psychologists have analyzed teenagers’ relationships with their friends and parents, while also regularly monitoring health indicators such as cholesterol levels, blood pressure, glucose, inflammation markers, and blood composition.

The result was striking: teenagers who, at the age of 13, showed aggression toward friends and had constant conflict with their fathers, demonstrated significantly accelerated biological aging by the age of 30. Continuous father–child conflicts in late adolescence and hostility toward friends around the age of 20 were identified as the strongest influencing factors.

Experts emphasize that this process was observed equally in both men and women. According to them, a person’s attitude toward others and the evaluation given by people around them can predict internal aging processes in the body.

“This is not only about cardiovascular disease risk. A person’s behavior and relationships with others are powerful predictors of biological age,” the researchers said.

Scientists noted that addressing psychological pressure and aggression during adolescence in a timely manner is crucial for long-term health.
