Parsley is famous for its beneficial properties, but in some cases, caution is required when consuming it.
1. Be careful during pregnancy — parsley contains essential oils (especially apiol and myristicin). They have the ability to contract the muscles of the uterus, which may increase the risk of premature birth. Therefore, pregnant women are not advised to consume it in excessive amounts.
2. Kidney diseases — parsley is a strong diuretic. If there are stones or inflammation in the kidneys, it gives excessive load.
3. May cause allergy — some people may develop an allergic reaction to parsley: itching on the skin, rash, or difficulty breathing.
4. Risk of low blood pressure — parsley contains a lot of potassium, which removes sodium through urine. This may lower blood pressure. Therefore, people with hypotension (low blood pressure) should be careful.
When consumed in moderation, parsley is beneficial, but there are restrictions for some people. That is why it is important to take into account one’s personal health condition before frequent use.
