
Uzbek citizen Sherzod Namozov demonstrated true heroism in the Russian city of Sochi, becoming the focus of attention of local and federal mass media. Together with other witnesses, Sherzod rescued a woman and her one-month-old baby from a burning apartment.
This incident, which occurred on October 31, was reported on Russia’s Channel One. The fire engulfed the attic floor of a five-story building, and the evacuation route for the young mother and her baby was blocked.
The woman was forced to climb onto a narrow air conditioning block in order to get outside. Sherzod Namozov, who was born in the “Uchqizil” neighborhood of the Termiz district, Surkhandarya region, was nearby during this dangerous situation.
He rushed to help without hesitation. Along with other concerned people, Sherzod climbed up from a window on the lower floor and first passed the baby down safely.
Then, with the help of a ladder, he helped the woman down. Fortunately, after the mother and baby were quickly examined by doctors and it was determined they were not in any danger, they were discharged from the hospital.
The 38-year-old Uzbek rescuer Sherzod Namozov has been working as a taxi driver in Sochi for 10 years. On the day of the incident, he was taking a passenger to their destination.
Upon seeing the fire, Sherzod hurried to help and described his heroic act as “simply fulfilling his human duty.”
