Karpin on FIFA Decision: We Will Now Monitor Kerzhakov Too

Karpin comments on FIFA decision: We will now monitor Kerzhakov as well

The head coach of the Russian national football team, Valery Karpin, commented on FIFA's decision to revisit the goal attribution in the Germany-Russia friendly match held in 2005. The discussion concerns a critical moment in the closing seconds of the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

During that attack, Andrey Arshavin advanced down the right flank, bypassed Oliver Kahn, and took a shot at the goal. The ball was directed into the net near the goal area line by Alexander Kerzhakov.

FIFA identified Kerzhakov as the scorer of the goal, but the final decision remains with the Russian Football Union. Karpin humorously remarked on the situation, suggesting that Kerzhakov's statistics might now come into focus.

“It seems we’ll now have to keep an eye on Kerzhakov. Just not sure where he is,” Karpin wrote on social media.

If the Russian Football Union confirms the goal, Kerzhakov would equal Artem Dzyuba in terms of the number of goals scored for the Russian national team, with both players totaling 31 goals each.
