The Candidates Tournament held in Paphos, Cyprus, has become a real celebration for Uzbek chess. Our compatriot Javohir Sindarov defeated one of the main contenders for the world chess crown.
In the 4th round of the competition, Javohir Sindarov, who played with white pieces, played against one of the leaders of the tournament, experienced American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana. In a fierce intellectual battle, our compatriot defeated his opponent and won an important victory.
Solo leader and rating record
After this victory, Javohir became the solo leader in the tournament standings, having scored 3.5 points out of 4. However, the biggest news happened in the "Live Rating" table.
The victory over Caruana gave Javohir 14.2 rating points. As a result, Sindarov rose 6 places in the world rankings and became the world's 6th ranked chess player! Currently, his rating is 2759.2 points, which is the highest in his career.
Two Uzbeks in the top 6
It is gratifying that now there are two of our representatives in the list of the top 6 chess players in the world:
- Nodirbek Abdusattorov — 4th place with 2780.3 points;
- Javohir Sindarov — 6th place with 2759.2 points.
Such a result is unprecedented in the history of Uzbek chess and once again confirms our country's status as a "chess state".
Victories from football to chess
Let us recall that our representatives are triumphing not only on the chessboard, but also on the green fields. Just recently, when our national team defeated Venezuela, Latin American publications recognized the power of Uzbek sports. Today, it's the turn of chess, and Sindarov is "defeating" world giants.
