Arne Slot addresses fan backlash over Rio Ngumoha substitution

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has responded to fan criticism following his decision to substitute young talent Rio Ngumoha during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Chelsea. The 17-year-old winger, who was one of the standout players, was met with boos from the stands upon being replaced, but the manager insisted the decision was necessary. This is reported by Goal.com.
According to Arne Slot, Rio Ngumoha experienced physical issues in the second half and requested to leave the pitch himself. "He wasn't injured, but he felt muscle cramps. I spoke to him, and he said he couldn't continue. That's why I had to substitute him," the Dutch tactician stated.
The coach added that he understands the fans' emotions but must prioritize the team's interests. "It's natural for fans to find such a decision strange if they don't know the player's condition. But it made no sense to keep a player on the pitch who felt only 50-60 percent fit and couldn't sprint," Slot explained.
At the final whistle, Liverpool fans were unhappy with the result and booed the team off the pitch. Arne Slot admitted he fully understands the situation and acknowledged that a home draw against a team like Chelsea is not up to the club's standards. "We always play to win, and when the result isn't what we expected, we are just as disappointed as the fans," the manager concluded.
