France announces final squad for the World Cup

The French national team has officially announced its final squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Head coach Didier Deschamps has named 26 players to the roster for the tournament. The list includes both experienced stars and talented representatives of the new generation.

France is considered one of the main favorites in any major tournament. Once again, Deschamps' team heads to the World Cup with a strong squad, high competition, and ambitious goals. The selections in defense and midfield, in particular, demonstrate the coach's depth of options.

The goalkeepers list includes Mike Maignan, Brice Samba, and Robin Risser. As a highly experienced keeper, Maignan is considered the primary candidate for the starting spot. Samba and Risser add competition and provide the coaching staff with additional options.

The defense includes players such as Lucas Digne, Malo Gusto, Lucas Hernandez, Theo Hernandez, Ibrahima Konate, Jules Kounde, Maxence Lacroix, William Saliba, and Dayot Upamecano. This line possesses sufficient physical strength, speed, and international experience. Central defenders like Saliba, Konate, and Upamecano, in particular, could be a serious obstacle for opposing forwards.

In midfield, Deschamps has placed his trust in N'Golo Kante, Kouadio Kone, Adrien Rabiot, Aurelien Tchouameni, Warren Zaire-Emery, Maghnes Akliouche, Bradley Barcola, Rayan Cherki, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Michael Olise. A blend of experience and youth is evident in this list. While Kante and Rabiot provide stability, Zaire-Emery, Cherki, Doue, and Olise are expected to add creativity to the attack.

In the attacking line, the main focus is, of course, on Kylian Mbappe. The Real Madrid star remains France's biggest weapon. He will be joined by Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marcus Thuram. This trio can cause major problems for opposing defenders in terms of speed, physical strength, and goal-scoring instinct.

At the same time, it is noteworthy that some famous players were left out of the final roster. Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, Tottenham forward Randal Kolo Muani, and PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier were not included in the World Cup squad. These decisions show how intense and competitive Deschamps' selection process was.

France's squad for the 2026 World Cup is as follows:

Goalkeepers:
Mike Maignan (Milan), Brice Samba (Rennes), Robin Risser (Lens).

Defenders:
Lucas Digne (Aston Villa), Malo Gusto (Chelsea), Lucas Hernandez (PSG), Theo Hernandez (Al Hilal), Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool), Jules Kounde (Barcelona), Maxence Lacroix (Crystal Palace), William Saliba (Arsenal), Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich).

Midfielders:
N'Golo Kante (Fenerbahce), Kouadio Kone (Roma), Adrien Rabiot (Milan), Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid), Warren Zaire-Emery (PSG), Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), Bradley Barcola (PSG), Rayan Cherki (Manchester City), Ousmane Dembele (PSG), Desire Doue (PSG), Michael Olise (Bayern Munich).

Forwards:
Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid), Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace), Marcus Thuram (Inter).

For information, the French national team will face Senegal, Iraq, and Norway in the World Cup group stage. Although the French look like favorites on paper, every match at the World Cup will be a unique test. Physically strong teams like Senegal and Norway, in particular, could become serious opponents for France.

In short, Deschamps has chosen a strong and balanced squad for the World Cup. Mbappe is the leader, there is experience in defense, and there is enough creativity in midfield. Expectations for France are high: this squad was built not just to participate, but to fight for the world crown once again.
