The capacity of solar power plants in China has surpassed 1,000 GW, which accounts for approximately half of the total global capacity of such systems.
From January to May, China launched solar power plants with a combined capacity of 198 GW and wind power plants with a capacity of 46 GW. This was reported by The Guardian, citing calculations from the American Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI).
This marks a record for the construction of such power plants in China. The newspaper notes that the capacity of the newly built plants is equivalent to the total power generation capacity of countries like Turkey and Indonesia.
In May alone, according to ASPI, China built 93 GW of solar power plants and 26 GW of wind power plants. In total, the capacity of solar power in China has surpassed 1,000 GW, which represents about half of the world’s total capacity.
Recently, China has been increasingly focused on developing renewable energy. In April, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that over the past five years, the country has built “the largest and most complete supply chain in the new energy sector.” Specifically, China has established large-scale production of electric vehicles, batteries for them, solar panels, and more.
It is also noted that green energy is developing in other countries as well. By the end of 2024, nearly half (47%) of all electricity in Europe is expected to come from renewable sources, including 17.4% from wind power. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
