Uzbekistan is in the process of implementing several strategic projects in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, with the United States-based tech corporation Nvidia acting as a key partner. Last week, Uzbekistan's Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held negotiations with the company's leadership during his visit to the U.S.
Several initiatives aimed at driving the country's technological development were discussed during the meeting. Specifically, the establishment of two high-performance computing clusters with a total capacity of 1 megawatt was a central topic.
These resources will be allocated towards two primary areas. The first cluster is designed for the education sector and scientific research, which will support the training of the next generation of professionals and facilitate cutting-edge scientific studies.
The second cluster will focus on projects in critical sectors such as digital government, healthcare, banking, and industry, considering the significant benefits that artificial intelligence can bring to the economy and social life. Final agreements on these projects are expected to be signed by 2026.
Representatives of the ministry emphasized that the timeline for signing contracts depends on two main factors: the availability of necessary high-tech equipment in international markets and negotiations with the U.S. government regarding export control regulations. In addition to infrastructure development, significant attention is being paid to building human capacity.
An advanced training complex, the "AI Center of Excellence," will be launched in Uzbekistan as a hub for artificial intelligence expertise. The total cost of this project is estimated at $3 million.
The center's primary mission is to train educators who will disseminate artificial intelligence knowledge across higher education institutions and to offer professional development courses for specialists in various fields. Additionally, the government plans to equip the country's leading universities with AI-powered supercomputer infrastructure provided by Nvidia.
This initiative aims to create modern computational capacities at universities and offer opportunities for scientific research and practical applications. The corresponding agreement is scheduled to be signed by the end of 2025.
Moreover, an essential element of the collaboration will involve sharing expertise. Nvidia will provide Uzbekistan with open access to global best practices in managing artificial intelligence, its efficient application across various sectors of the economy, and strategies for developing an AI ecosystem.
