Russia restricts access to government services via VPN

The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia has explained why online services and government platforms in the country do not function when a VPN is enabled. According to the ministry, most local services have implemented such restrictions to ensure user security. Ixbt.com reports on this.
Security requirements are particularly high for government platforms where citizens' personal data is processed. Experts note that many VPN services do not guarantee confidentiality, and cybercriminals can use them to intercept traffic.
Currently, the Russian government is taking measures to reduce the level of VPN usage among citizens. To encourage IT companies to block access to these services, discussions are underway regarding the removal of various incentives, including the cancellation of accreditation that provides tax benefits.
