US bank exposes customer data to artificial intelligence

Community Bank, operating in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, has reported a cybersecurity incident. The bank acknowledged that customers' names, dates of birth, and social security numbers were exposed to third parties. This was reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
According to an 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the data leak was caused by the "use of unauthorized artificial intelligence software." The bank decided to disclose the incident due to the volume and sensitivity of the confidential information.
Although the full details of the incident have not been disclosed, it is suspected that an employee may have uploaded customer data to an online AI chatbot. This resulted in confidential information ending up on the chatbot developer's servers.
Community Bank has not yet disclosed how many customers were affected or which AI application was used. Bank management stated that the process of assessing the affected customer data is underway and that appropriate notifications are being sent in accordance with the law.
