What does the world's largest malware database look like?

The malware research group vx-underground announced on its X social media page that it possesses an archive of malicious code totaling 30 terabytes. Bernardo Quintero, founder of VirusTotal, noted that his service contains 31 petabytes of malware samples submitted by users. Considering that one petabyte is approximately equal to 1000 terabytes, these are massive figures. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Cybersecurity companies and AI researchers use this database to train threat detection models and understand the evolution of attacks. Experts calculated what height would be formed if this data were stored on standard 1-terabyte 3.5-inch hard disk drives (HDD) and stacked on top of each other.

According to calculations, the 30 terabytes of data in the vx-underground database would consist of 30 hard drives, reaching a height of approximately 76 centimeters. The 31 petabytes of data in the VirusTotal database would require 31,744 hard drives. If stacked, the tower would reach nearly 806 meters, rivaling the tallest structures in the world.
