Google introduces Universal Cart system to manage purchases across the internet

At the Google I/O conference, the company announced Universal Cart, a system that allows managing all online purchases from a single hub. This innovation means AI assistants are evolving from simple recommendation tools into active participants in e-commerce. Users can now add products to a single cart via Google Search, Gemini, YouTube, or Gmail. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
The Universal Cart system tracks price changes, notifies about discounts, and alerts users when product stock is low. Additionally, the system uses AI to help shoppers make informed decisions. For example, when assembling computer parts, it warns about incompatible components and suggests alternative options.
The company also introduced an update to the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2). This technology allows users to authorize AI agents to make payments on their behalf within set limits. Users can pre-define brands and spending thresholds for purchases.
Through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), shoppers can complete purchases directly via Google or by navigating to the merchant's site. Currently, this feature has launched in the US and will be integrated into the Gemini app this summer, followed by YouTube and Gmail platforms. Future plans include expanding the service to Canada, Australia, and the UK.
