Waymo Surpasses Tesla in Autonomous Vehicles in Texas

According to data from a new platform launched by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Waymo is leading the state with nearly 600 registered autonomous vehicles. This figure is significantly higher than its main competitors: Avride, Nuro, Tesla, and Zoox. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Under a new law that took effect on May 28, companies testing or operating driverless vehicles are required to share their fleet size and safety data with the DMV. Currently, Alphabet-owned Waymo has registered 577 autonomous vehicles in Texas, while Avride has 317 and Nuro has 47.

Tesla, which offers commercial robotaxi services, has registered only 42 autonomous vehicles. Although Tesla launched its service in Austin last year and later announced expansions to Dallas and Houston, official figures show a significant gap compared to Waymo.

Additionally, the Volkswagen subsidiary MOIA is registered with 12 electric microbuses. It is worth noting that fleet size does not fully reflect a company's market position, as companies like Nuro and Zoox have not yet begun commercial operations, while Waymo has temporarily suspended operations in some cities due to flooding.

Autonomous technologies are also developing in the freight sector. For instance, Aurora has 91 driverless trucks, while its competitors Kodiak AI and Waabi have registered 33 and 13 trucks, respectively. Gatik AI, a startup specializing in medium-duty trucks, operates with 64 vehicles.
