Up to 5 years in prison may be introduced for illegal mining in Russia

The Russian State Duma has reviewed and adopted in the first reading a bill providing for criminal liability for illegal mining of digital currencies and the activities of mining infrastructure operators. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

According to the document, mining without registration in a special registry, as well as providing mining infrastructure operator services without being in the registry, may result in a fine of up to 1.5 million rubles or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

If these actions lead to large-scale damage or the generation of large-scale income, liability measures will be further tightened. When the crime is committed by an organized group or results in exceptionally large-scale damage, the penalty is set at up to 5 years in prison.

It is also proposed to amend Article 104.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to these changes, the possibility of confiscating property for illegal activities in the mining sector will be expanded.
