In Uzbekistan, the volume of sugar production has been noticeably decreasing in recent years. According to a new report published by the State Statistics Committee, in January–June 2025 only 165.5 thousand tons of sugar were produced in the country.
Compared to previous years, this decline is quite evident. For example, during the same period in 2023, 332.6 thousand tons were produced, while in the first half of 2024 the figure stood at 227.8 thousand tons of sugar. Thus, over the past two years, production has almost halved.
According to officials, several factors have influenced this situation. In particular, the reduction of raw material cultivation in agriculture, technical problems at production plants, and sharp fluctuations in sugar prices on external markets are among the main reasons.
Experts also emphasize that the decline in sugar production may affect price stability in the domestic market. This, in turn, may require an increase in import volumes to ensure the balance of supply and demand.
Thus, the negative trend in sugar production observed in recent years has become significant not only economically, but also socially. Officials, in turn, stated that a number of measures will be taken to stabilize production volumes and further develop the sector.
