Uzbeks who went for Umrah cannot return: 170 people are in difficult situations

More than 170 Uzbekistanis who went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah have not yet had the opportunity to return to their homeland. This was reported by a Dunyo news source.

It was reported that diplomats from the Consulate General operating in Mecca visited the hotels where citizens facing the problem were staying and held direct conversations to study their situation. It was found that currently more than 170 pilgrims are staying in hotels and waiting to return to Uzbekistan.

According to the pilgrims, they arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of various groups during their 14-day Umrah journey. However, due to the misinformation, irresponsibility, and mistakes of some individuals who organized the trip, citizens found themselves in a difficult situation.

During conversations, it became known that the majority of pilgrims are elderly people. Some of them have suffered a heart attack (infarction), suffered from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and are required to take medications regularly. This further complicates their situation.

The pilgrims appealed to the government of Uzbekistan for practical assistance in the matter of returning to the Homeland. In turn, the diplomats informed them that due to the fact that the trip was organized without a permit and informally, applications for return will be sent to the relevant departments in the prescribed manner. However, it is also noted that this process may take some time.

In this regard, to avoid further aggravation of the situation, citizens are recommended to purchase air tickets at their own expense and return to the Homeland independently.

It was also explained that upon returning to Uzbekistan, it is possible to appeal to the relevant law enforcement agencies regarding the illegal actions of the persons who put them in such a difficult situation.

Currently, this situation is under constant control of the Consulate General, and appropriate measures are being taken to stabilize the situation.
