Mirziyoyev and Tokayev discussed the joint “Clean Air” project

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on April 11 in the city of Bukhara, discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation as well as issues of regional importance.

During the meeting, the Uzbek side put forward initiatives aimed at the efficient and rational use of water resources, as well as strengthening environmental sustainability in the region. In particular, it was proposed to implement “Clean Air” projects in border areas aimed at improving air quality.

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in turn, expressed full support for this initiative. His words were also confirmed by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.

Addressing the environmental situation, Tokayev emphasized that he shares concerns regarding the situation in Tashkent. He also noted that in Kazakhstan’s major city — Almaty — the environmental situation is also severe.

— Almaty has unfortunately become one of the most polluted major cities in the world. In this regard, urgent practical measures must be taken, — said the head of Kazakhstan.

According to him, the “Clean Air” initiative can be effectively implemented jointly at the level of the governments of the two countries, under the patronage of the presidents. It is noted that this idea may be positively received by the public and the international community.

Tokayev also noted that this project will help increase the responsibility of local authorities and entrepreneurs, as well as encourage more active efforts in the field of ecology and nature protection.

For reference, on April 11, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in Bukhara on a working visit. The high-ranking guest was personally welcomed by the head of state at Bukhara International Airport.

Thus, the meeting in Bukhara became an important step in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the implementation of new initiatives in the environmental sphere.
